twinflames
image_pdfimage_print

Does the term “twinflame” come from God? Does it come from a “divine” source? Would this be considered demonic due to its telepathic tendencies and reincarnation belief? I have a family member who thinks they have found their “twinflame” and believes that he has a “higher” connection with this person then his wife. I have been brought up in a Christian home, and feel that this goes against everything that I have been taught. Did Jesus himself preach about reincarnation? What can I say to this person to let them know that “twinflames” do not exist?

I had never heard of the word “twinflame” till we got your question, but as I researched it, I had to chuckle with rueful recognition of the relational dynamics. Websites addressing this supposed “twinflame” phenomenon of one soul in two bodies describe the breathtaking rapture of an immediate and intense connection with another person that often overshadows actual real-life relationships (such as a spouse, as in your family member’s case). What’s really happening is that a person becomes infatuated with their perception of someone else, imbuing the object of their intense affections with a kind of “magic” fueled by their imagination and fantasy; in their mind, the other person is more beautiful, smarter, more eloquent, more sensitive and more of an amazing match than the all-too-real known quantity of the flesh-and-blood people they do life with. As Focus on the Family’s Dr. James Dobson said early in the days of the internet when we were discussing the ugly downside of online relationships, of course the fantasy wonderfulness (my words, not his) of the other person is going to overshadow the spouse who leaves socks or towels on the floor!

Emotional Dependency bookletSomeone has put a New Age spin on an old, old temptation of relational idolatry. Putting another person or the relationship up on a pedestal as the most important thing in life is idolatry, and it is sin. Lori Rentzel nailed this concept in her excellent essay “Emotional Dependency.” (You can find the essay online here. It is also available published as a little booklet by InterVarsity Press.)

Interestingly, as I read about “twinflame” to a friend who spent decades as a lesbian activist, her comment was, “Oh, there’s the beginning of a lesbian relationship!” The intensity of relational idolatry is a counterfeit to true intimacy no matter the gender of the people involved. (Consider my blog post The Dark Underside of Female Friendships.)

You asked about supposed “telepathic tendencies and reincarnation belief.” There can certainly be a demonic component to this kind of relationship because there are layers of deception going on, including belief in previous lives. Probe has several articles and answers to email about reincarnation you might find helpful (and no, Jesus didn’t preach about reincarnation because it’s not real):

The Mystery of Reincarnation – A Christian Perspective
Does the Bible Talk About Reincarnation?”
“Was Reincarnation Ever in the Bible?”
“You Should Research Reincarnation and the Lost Words of Jesus”
Reincarnation: The Christmas Counterfeit

Having read the entire Bible multiple times and studying it for decades, I assure you that Twinflames is not a biblical concept. No, it doesn’t come from God.

What can you say to your family member to let them know that “twinflames” don’t exist? How about something like, “I am very concerned that you are buying into a deceptive lie about this other relationship that threatens to wreck your marriage and your spiritual life. I’ve done some research; please consider that the concept of ‘twinflames’ is a made-up idea to justify illegitimate attractions to another person. I can give you more information if you want it.”

I send this with a prayer that God will open the eyes of your family member before he drives his marriage off a cliff.

Blessing you,
Sue Bohlin

Addendum 2/20/2021:

Having received scores of comments on this topic since publishing this page 4 years ago (and not being willing to allow that amount of falsehood and confusion on our website by posting them), I am more convinced than ever that the idea of Twin Flames is one of the most clever, heartbreaking, demonic deceptions ever invented. The degree of anguish that people have shared over this powerfully evil deceit demonstrates why the Lord Jesus said that Satan comes to “steal, kill, and destroy” (John 10:10). This is yet another one of his nasty methods of hurting people and holding them hostage through a lie.

Lots of people have written that the Twin Flames phenomenon is in the Bible, but it’s not in the text. For example, identifying Jesus and Mary Magdalene, and David and Jonathan, as  Twin Flames. Claiming that Adam and Eve are the original Twin Flames. That the Song of Solomon is all about a Twin Flame relationship. There are lots of relationships in the Bible, including intense ones, but no Twin Flames. It’s not there.

Twin flame connection is very real and just because its not blatantly stated in the bible does not debunk it…”we made them made in pairs” or “they were made in pairs” is just one reference to divine counterparts that can be found in the scriptures…in the case of twin flames, who feels it, knows it…very real and definitely not infatuation or obsession but a connection beyond your control whether you like the person or not… definitely ordained by God himself

The connection must be treated like any other relationship in terms of respect and morals…a twin flame that is in a relationship or marriage is off limits therefore the marriage or relationship must be respected and honored an affair is unacceptable divine counterpart or not!!!! I was in a divine connection when i was married but i remained faithful to my husband no matter who i had a stronger connection with…its all about respect for yourself and others twin flame or not

      Hi Erica,

“We made them in pairs” is from the Qur’an, not the Bible. The Bible is the inspired Word of God, but the Qur’an is a collection of sayings from a fallible human being, some of which is borrowed from the true scriptures.

I’m sure that a twin flame relationship feels very real and intense and compelling to those caught up in it. But an uncontrollable sense of “connection” to another doesn’t make it ordained by God. I do want to affirm you for remaining faithful to your husband despite this other relationship. Way to go, Erica!

Everything I have read about twin flames is an attempt to legitimize something that is 100% based on feelings. But biblically, marriage is a deeply spiritual picture of the union of Christ and the church, where two very different, very other beings come together in a supernatural oneness where each party maintains their uniqueness and distinction from each other. It’s very different, and we might even say the opposite of, the “mirror image” that is supposed to be part of a twin flame relationship.

Our standard for truth has to be the Word of God, not “I feel it so strongly, it must be real.”

      Thanks for writing.

Coming from someone who was apart of the twin flame culture up until recently..i can say this right now.. it’s not of God…
God does not encourage people to have premarital sex, he doesn’t encourage people to have sexual fantasies, or masterbation, he doesn’t encourage you to give into lust, he doesn’t encourage you to give into sin, he doesn’t encourage you to give into your earthly pleasures of the flesh, he doesn’t encourage mysticism, witchcraft, or praying to angels.

But do you know who does encourage all those? Satan. He’s the master of lies and deceit. He tempted angels out of heaven, you really think he can’t tempt people into hell?
If you think otherwise, you are lying to yourself.

  2. Ron 7 years ago

The words Twin Flame are not in the Bible, nor is the word “Rapture”. But so called Christians have been led to believe this lie too. The concept of a Twin Flame marriage is from the Bible. The 1st gift God gave man was his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Sue did you miss this lesson in Sunday school? What God joins no man can take away. In a fallen world, most so called marriages today are contract marriages always ending in divorce. If God joins them, no one can take them apart, hence “Twin Flame”. In the new world coming, see Ish. 65, all marriages will be God joined. This women is like the rest of the so called Church today, brain washed by men. The Bible may not say Twin Flame, but a Christ centered marriage is and will stay that way. Only when two people have learned to surrender to God as Job did. Marriage is ordained by God, sad most today arranged by man.

      Hello Ron,

From the reading I’ve done on the Twin Flame concept, the descriptions of the relationships are not consistent with healthy emotional intimacy that is God’s plan for marriage. The biblical one-flesh union of husband and wife is different from supposed twin flame connection. It is portrayed as the reunion of one soul split into two parts, who continue to meet up throughout multiple lifetimes courtesy of reincarnation. None of this is biblical.

I must respectfully disagree with you. I think you may be conflating your understanding a Christ-centered marriage with a feelings-centered relationship that leaves God out of it.

Many children are being born today with telepathy and other abilities which speak of our undeniable connection to one another.

Many have felt and are feeling the specialness of these times as no other times before it seems we have greater access to spirit. Some believe it is end times, some believe it is a time of shifting into the next level of evolution of humanity. None of us know anything for certain and we are all filled with fearfulness and anxiety.

I myself personally feel it is an arrogance to believe my own way of understanding god is the only true and correct way and I wonder at the wisdom of Christian leadership holding on to archaic belief structures that in the face of overwhelming evidence against, will only serve to alienate people from Christ. As example a married Christian couple who give birth to a child with the afore mentioned abilities. If the church has no answer for them aside from the fearful insistance their child is possessed of a demon they will have no choice but to abandon their faith or their child.

In particular the case of twin flames which contrary to your assertions on the basis of minimal research and no personal experience is not an idealic relationship. It is a spiritual crucible the likes of which very few would knowingly choose for themselves.

And again I say, it is an arrogance and a failing of Christian Leadership to simply dismiss and ignore these and other phenomena which are occurring at this time to greater and greater numbers of people leaving them without the support of the church and plausible explanations that will lead them to rather than push them away from Christ.

    As I have been.

      Hello Ramona,

Our goal and intent at Probe Ministries is to look at everything through the lens of biblical truth. That’s why, in answering the question about Twin Flames, the most important question to ask is, “What does the Bible say about any of this?”

And that would include our response to comments.

      >>Many children are being born today with telepathy and other abilities

I respectfully suggest that telepathy is a demonic counterfeit, since the Bible denies mind-reading between humans: “For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?” (1 Corinthians 2:11) We must also be aware of the kinds of occult activities that God forbids in Deuteronomy 18:10-12.

      >> Some believe it is end times, some believe it is a time of shifting into the next level of evolution of humanity.

When we compare what human life was like in the Garden of Eden before sin entered the world, to where we are today, we can see that humanity is not evolving to become better and better. Every day we wake up, we are one day further removed from the Garden. The scriptures that describe what life will be like in the end times present a dark picture of mankind operating apart from the power and presence of God.

      >>None of us know anything for certain and we are all filled with fearfulness and anxiety.

This postmodern idea that “none of us can know anything for certain” is not necessarily true. The apostle John wrote by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, “And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life. I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life.” (1 John 5:11-13)

Nor are we ALL filled with fearfulness and anxiety. When we have a firm grasp on the goodness and sovereignty of God, that diminishes fear and anxiety because we can take refuge in His love and the reassurance that a good and loving God is in control.

      >> If the church has no answer for them aside from the fearful insistance their child is possessed of a demon they will have no choice but to abandon their faith or their child.

Demon possession is not the only explanation for an apparent “ability” that violates the word of God. We are instructed about spiritual warfare, that Satan is capable of disguising himself as an angel of light, thus deceiving many. A child with what looks like occult, paranormal abilities is apparently experiencing some spiritual warfare—possession is not necessary to explain it.

I get it, people can confuse confidence for arrogance. Speaking personally, my confidence is in the Word of God as the standard for truth—not in myself. But 2 Timothy 3:13 assures us that in the last days, we will see a lot of deceivers and deception, and I think that is possible because so few people in the church are actually reading and studying the Word of God to know and be anchored in His eternal truths. So they are easily led astray.

If it’s true that greater numbers of people are experiencing paranormal and occultic phenomena, then this will not lead anyone TO Christ. He says, “If anyone wants to be My disciple, he must deny himself, take up his cross and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23) Cooperating with unbiblical, occultic experiences is the opposite of denying oneself and following Christ.

I’m sorry that you have apparently had a break in your connection to the church, but if the reason is that it wouldn’t support your occult beliefs, then it was doing its job. (I also realize that lots of people have sustained wounds because of lovelessness in the church, and that may be your story as well, and I am truly sorry if is.)

      Thank you for writing.

Thank you for posting this article on “twin flames”ln all honesty l never heard the concept of twin or soul mates, There was a bizarre blog l came across several months ago, A psychic psychoanalyst who claims her twin flame or spiritual husband was a death row inmate who was executed several yrs ago and coincidentally was featured on a Herzog death row series They advocate the afterlife and promote peace healing and soul evolution
Then she claims how demonic possession is beneficial and Jesus Christ when he was executed was a stand in He never ascended to heaven

      Sue Bohlin 7 years ago

      Hi Rebecca,

I think everything about this “twin flame” or “twin soul” experience is demonic deception. It appears to be an idea embraced by believers in New Age mysticism who would subscribe to ideas like “soul evolution.” Anyone who would claim demonic possession is beneficial and deny that Jesus ascended to heaven reveals they are listening to demonic lies and deceptions.

    Sue,

How can you say something is not real when you haven’t ever experienced it for yourself? All you have is read about it. I’m sorry, but I can’t ever take anything you write as knowledge of understanding…
your lack of experience speaks volumes.
To those who have met their twin flame, I wish you the best on your journey. Do NOT listen to anyone else’s opinions… especially this woman’s opinions who really knows nothing on the subject. Knowledge is not wisdom. I have knowledge on fixing a car engine…. but I have never down it myself… would that make me a professional mechanic? No. Don’t listen to fools claiming truth without experience.

The reason Probe Ministries was asked about twin flames in the first place was to get a biblical perspective on it. That is the lens through which we seek to see and interpret everything about life.

That is an interesting perspective you have, that one has to have experienced something to have an opinion on it. I’ve never murdered anyone but I still say it’s wrong. According to your logic, only murderers have the right to say anything about killing other people. Sorry, that doesn’t fly.

  6. Myth buster. 6 years ago

Also Sue, Jesus ascending to heaven is soul evolution. Everything created by God, grows. Want proof? Every living thing grows and evolves. You, your children, your plants, the trees outside. All growing and evolving.

I’m sorry. But your rant has no credibility.

    • Author
      Sue Bohlin 6 years ago

I reiterate, everything we say on Probe.org is coming from a biblical perspective to the best of our ability. Biblically, the explanation of Jesus ascending to heaven is not about soul evolution, it’s about returning home because He left heaven to come to earth. We also reject evolution as the concept of “getting better and better all the time.” Since the Bible teaches that God created the world, not purposeless, random chance, we reject evolution unless one is defining it as “change over time,” which of course is real. And yes, the Bible also says that Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man (Luke 2:52), but that refers to growth in the human part of Him; there was no growth in His divinity since He was always perfect from all eternity.

I understand you rejecting my credibility from your perspective, and you certainly have the right to do that, but I’m here on this side of the screen responding to issues from a biblical, Christian perspective. It’s a completely different worldview than yours. But it’s what we do, and it’s why we got the question in the first place.

I wish you well. I wish you truth.

I can vouch for her that it is demonic as I used to believe in this when I was searching for answers & it WAS the enemy leading me astray as a baby in Christ. Then God stepped in & showed me truth & this & many many ideas like it are complete deception by the enemy because of the times. He disguises himself as an angel of light is true & oh how the twin flame connection speaks to the depths of our soul that cries out for uncomditional love & sounds so appealing. If you notice the basis is self centered & based on the fact that they are so special & nobody else & is very narcissistic at its core & abusive. It is just or infatuation & when we sin & fall away from God we find ways to justify it. Please read the Bible & ask God for guidance & you will see as I did this is not of God. Thank you & may God bless you.

    Hi
Very aptly said and as a victim of this evil concept my marriage of 20 years with 3 kids (was a love marriage of choice and we were happy contented) till this evil incident happened and my wife met her so called twin at a meditation program and all hell broke loose.. She now wants to separate from me for him while he was looking for a few cheap thrill with her… He has told her he can’t marry her as he has a family too.. And my wife says it’s normal Ina twin relationship and this is the runner phase.. Someone surely has brain washed these people big time and give a so called divine cover to a very immoral act of adultery. How do I get this message to her so that she realizes.

  8. Frank 6 years ago

My marriage has been wrecked by these false concepts. My wife has been having an affair with her so-called Twin Flame since before our marriage. Found out just recently as the wife has been a little careless with her love notes. Her Twin Flame is married and has a business with his present wife. He has basically used my wife as his play thing for years.

The concept is Demonic and leads to adultery and broken marriages. This one is broken by my wife’s idolatry of an old boyfriend who sent her a dear Jane letter. He was too smart to ever marry her and have children with her.

      Hi Jenny,

No, Adam and Eve are not twin flames. God created two beings out of Adam (Genesis 2:21-22), and then they became one flesh (Genesis 2:24)–but they were never one soul. They were (and still are!) separate individuals.

The concept of twin flames is not biblical. I am so glad you don’t want to be deceived!

Twin Flames are demonic entities that enchant a soldier for God. I experienced the Twin Flame over thirty years ago when it had no name. The man I met was used to allure me and adore me. I have never felt such an overwhelming sense of love. It felt like a fairy tale magic story. There was an instant connection and a sense of familiarity. I was an emotional wreck. I missed him, I loved him, I wanted him, and was mad at him. I had just met the man. This is how strong the UNGODLY soul tie is.

All my over-tones were sexual. As a virgin, I knew nothing about sex. I wanted him as my first. He rejected me sexually and made it clear we had to get married first. He wanted to marry me tomorrow after he introduced me to his mother. He idolized his mother. He spoke of her having much to teach me. I listened to him talk by telepathy. He spoke of things I had not known. A sense of inferiority placed me in submission. He spoke as a matter of fact. It was all about synchronicity, energy frequency, universal connection, astrology, divine feminine, divine masculine, and other things. He repeated that I was his ally.

My caution kicked in and I saw the snare. To be with him I had to embrace the ideology that I did not understand nor believe in. My mind settled for the desire of sex without the theorizing. He was adamant that consummating was before marriage was out. “You are the one that will take me closer. I cannot violate you. I need your understanding,” he said. My guard went up. He was the knowledgeable one, NOT me. What about his knowledgeable mama? Discernment kicked in.

I was entertaining Satan as much as he was entertaining me. The man was a complete package on the outside. The most attractive man I had ever seen. College degreed. A seven-figure salary. Partial work hours. Single without children. He was four years older than me. He offered me anything I wanted. He had more money than he could spend. Satan came big for me. My gift came in that I often hid.

A black image entered the room. I was not afraid and commanded it out through the blood of Jesus. It disappeared immediately. It resurfaced each time I became comfortable. Demons enter during comfort zones. My guard kept fluctuating. Better known as sitting on the fence.

At the end of the night I agreed to marry him. He wanted me to leave with him. I was told not to go by a voice that I obeyed. When he left my sight I prayed. Mostly, my prayer was for him to be safe. Within twenty minutes I was in severe pain. I suddenly heard the man’s voice. He wanted me to know he was dying. He was killed on his way home.

His death was not the end of the supernatural. My doorbell was ringing at three in the morning. I did not have a doorbell. Ignored the doorbell for years. My home phone would ring at three in the morning. I would answer to a dial tone. My caller ID indicated no call came in at three. Demons were trying to make me feel special as if the man and I had a meaningful connection. Had I left with him that night I would have died. My soul would have been taken.

Satan has become more clever to lure the soul to the occult. Twins Flame movement is evil. Satan has added a false sense of love to the game. The ego plays a big part in falling for the twin. The twin comes when you’re most vulnerable and open to be preyed upon. It is blissful and feels good. It is YOU loving yourself from the eyes of a demon.

I was too weak too utter this out loud in my youth. The attack on me was strong and silenced me. I am no longer afraid of anything related to demons. God has me covered. My mouth is no longer silenced. People should not tamper with things they do not know about. Go to God and He will reveal all truths in the world. God is real. Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus died for our sins. Satan comes in many forms to detach God. *The Twin Flame is Satan disguised in everlasting love.*

    Carla,

Thank you for your reply and first-hand account. Your words validate and affirm what I have also come to understand through the grace of the holy spirit and the power of the truth in Jesus Christ- twin flames are a temptation with a potent demonic edge, do your best to avoid them – if you can. My experience was more recent, occurring from 2016-18. In a search to see if anyone was talking about twin flames being demonic this thread came up. Thank you Sue for speaking on this topic and providing a place for open discussion.

While it is helpful to bring the truth of the gospel and trust in Jesus Christ as Sue has shared, many people who are experiencing the twin flame phenomenon/temptation/curse/lure are not able to hear what someone says unless they have experienced the intensity/reality of the twin flame attraction for themselves (as evidenced in some of the earlier replies). In your sharing Carla, you brought to light many important facets that I pray will shed light for others.

My twin flame tribulation brought me to the brink of the death- literally and figuratively. I shudder at how close I was to losing my soul to the abyss. Things are not as they seem and safety is found – as you rightly indicate- in keeping Jesus Christ, son of the living God, at your side. It was my ignorance and sin that led me to the darkness and it was the mercy of Christ that saved my body and soul and brought me to Him in a whole new way.

For me the twin flame experience ended up being a strengthening and profound purification. It led me to a deep repentance that might not have happened any other way. (It was God that made Pharoah obstinate, perhaps so that God’s miracles might be revealed through Moses in the parting of the Red Sea.) It is hard for me to feel sorry or victimized when God used all of it to return me to His arms. Plus, I see my sin and disobedience towards God at the very center of why it occurred. I have witnessed God’s power to use every experience for the strengthening of my human weaknesses. The Lord, in His mercy and goodness has given me a clear conscience as well as lasting peace.

Carla, your courage to speak frankly and honestly is a testament of your strength in Jesus Christ and I thank you. I pray many others find your post, hear your account and turn away from similar temptation and harm. If they are unable to immediately discern what is going on, I pray it leads them to repentance and conversion of heart, truth and total healing.

Wow. I am so happy I found this website with all these replies. I feel like I’m reading my own words. By God’s grace I was pulled from ALL the pits this rabbit hole led me down. Grateful for all your answers. God bless us all. In Jesus’ name. AMEN.

Make no mistake and do not underestimate this latest new age deception of twin flames. For years my wife has been involved in a twin flame connection and it is ruining our marriage. I still remain with her in hopes that she will see the error of her ways, and so that my two boys will grow up in a home with 2 parents who love and care for them. But if this continues we will need to separate at some point, but I require lots of prayer and discernment in this area. Granted we work great as a team to raise our boys, one of which has severe autism, but at this point it feels like I have a room mate instead of a wife. According to her she developed this deep connection years ago with someone she met at work. Her dreams, “special intuition”, and voices from God confirmed to her that this was something special and it was from God. Year after year her connection to this other man grows in leaps and bounds while her love and affection for me withers and dies. In my point of view she is trying to slap a spiritual label on an emotional experience she had.

I think all married couples should guard their hearts, prioritize their marriage partners, and set up appropriate boundaries before it is too late as in my case. All married couples should understand that because of our human nature we will all naturally become physically and emotionally attracted to someone of the opposite sex. Instead of doing what my wife did, and what I failed to do years ago, is communicate with each other in areas such as boundaries and friendships with members of the opposite sex, find creative ways to connect to strengthen your emotional bond, and commit to placing each other before each and every other human connection you have on this planet. I’m deeply saddened by what has happened to me, and I’m torn about how to proceed at this point in my life. But I hope that other younger couples can read this, learn from it, and work towards actually meaning and living out their vows when they say they will love, honor, and cherish their partner,

Twin flames is just Satan’s deception plan of Idolization idolatry.
